V-Hawks Go 1-3 in Third Conference Series

ELGIN, Ill. -- The V-Hawks took to the field in Elgin, Illinois this weekend to face off against the Judson Eagles in another CCAC series. The V-Hawks went 1-3 against the Eagles, playing some tough games. Following the weekend, the V-Hawks are now 4-15 overall and 3-8 in CCAC competitions. 

GAME ONE (VU 4, JUD 14)

In the first game of the series, the V-Hawks struggled to score. The team allowed nine runs within the first five innings. In the bottom of the fifth, the V-Hawks scored their first run with Esteban Sanchez running in on a wild pitch. The V-Hawks scored three more in the sixth inning. Nathan Faust doubled to run in Caden Besemer. Sean Rooney picked up 2 RBI, running in Esteban Sanchez and Nathan Faust. The V-Hawks couldn't keep up, falling 14-4 after nine innings. At the plate, the V-Hawks were led by Esteban Sanchez. He had three hits in three appearances. Other hits came from Xavier Gilmore, Cody Lozano, Caden Besemer, Nathan Faust, and Sean Rooney. At the mound, Anthony Sanchez allowed seven runs and five hits, Luke Widerholt allowed two runs and two hits, and Ryan Gordon allowed five runs and five hits. 

GAME TWO (VU 0, JUD 3)

The only scoring of the second game came in the first inning. Judson scored three runs in the top of the first. Though the V-Hawks held them off for the remainder of the game, the V-Hawks weren't able to score their own runs. Xavier Gilmore led the way for the V-Hawks at the plate with two hits on three at-bat appearances. The only other hit came from Caden Besemer. Jomar Guzman pitched much of the game, allowing five hits and three runs through 25 batters faced. Aiden Murphy allowed one hit and no runs as the closer. 

GAME THREE (VU 8, JUD 7)

Judson scored first in the third game with two runs in the top of the first. The V-Hawks responded with three of their own in the first. Nathan Faust ran in Caden Besemer and Xavier Gilmore on a double, while Dane Mediger ran in Nathan Faust on a single. Judson responded, scoring in the second, but the V-Hawks held strong, picking up two more runs in the bottom of the second. Going into the bottom of the fourth, the V-Hawks and the Eagles were tied at 5-5. The V-Hawks scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth. Caden Besemer ran in Jake Ulbert, Ryder Mortensen ran in Xavier Gilmore, and Nathan Faust ran in Caden Besemer. The V-Hawks were able to fend off the Eagles for the 8-7 victory. 

At the plate, the V-Hawks were led by Nathan Faust. Faust had three hits and three RBIs on four at-bat appearances. Cody Lozano also had three hits. Caden Besemer, Ryder Mortensen, and Jake Ulbert each had two hits as well. Brandon Shepherd pitched six innings for the V-Hawks, allowing six runs and 11 hits. Nick Colker closed the game for the V-Hawks, allowing two hits and one run in three innings. 

GAME FOUR (VU 1, JUD 4)

In the final game of the weekend, the V-Hawks were able to fend off the Eagles through the first three innings. In the fourth inning, the Eagles scored, and they scored again in the sixth. The V-Hawks scored just one run in the bottom of the sixth inning on a Ryder Mortensen home run. Carson Reinhardt and Ryder Mortensen each had two hits. The only other hits of the day came from Xavier Gilmore and Caden Besemer. Adam Olson pitched the first five innings, allowing just six hits and one run. Aiden Murphy and Luke Widerholt both made appearances from the mound as well.

The V-Hawks will play a single game at Waldorf on Tuesday, March 24. They will travel to St. Ambrose this weekend for their next conference series on Friday, March 27 and 28.
