DAVENPORT, Iowa -- The V-Hawks hit the road for another conference series this weekend as they traveled to Davenport to face off against the Fighting Bees of St. Ambrose. The V-Hawks dropped four games at St. Ambrose through two double-header competitions. With the losses, the V-Hawks fall to 4-20 on the road and 3-12 in the conference.
GAME ONE (VU 2, SAU 12)
In the first game of the series, the V-Hawks fell 12-2. The Bees struck first, scoring one run in the first inning. The V-Hawks responded to tie up the game with a run in the second inning. Ashton Duvall tripled to run in Ryder Mortensen. The Bees responded with two more in the second inning. In the top of the fourth, The V-Hawks scored another run with Esteban Sanchez running in Nathan Faust. The V-Hawks went on to fall 12-2 after the Bees scored seven runs in the fourth inning and two in the fifth.
At the plate, the V-Hawks were led by Ashton Duvall. Duvall had two hits on three at bat appearances as well as one RBI. Nathan Faust also had two hits on the day. Other hits came from Ryder Mortensen and Esteban Sanchez. Nick Colker started at the mound, pitching three innings and allowing six runs. Ryan Gordon came in and allowed four runs and three hits. Brandt Bashynski let up two runs and two hits. Spencer Hautamaki closed for the V-Hawks, allowing no runs or hits.
GAME TWO (VU 1, SAU 16)
In the second game of the series, the V-Hawks struggled early. They allowed nine runs in the first inning. In the second inning, the Bees scored two more, and in the third inning, they added five more. The V-Hawks only scoring came in the seventh inning. Ashton Duvall earned an RBI that ran in Joe Brennan.
From the plate, Ashton Duvall led with one hit and one RBI. Other hits on the game came from Zeke Nachtigal, Derick Cossio, Cody Lozano, and Joe Brennan. Anthony Sanchez pitched the first inning, allowing nine runs and six hits. Evan Laudenberg relieved Sanchez, allowing six hits and seven runs during his time. Michael Conroy and Roberto Echvarria both closed out the game, allowing zero runs each.
GAME THREE (VU 5, SAU 9)
The V-Hawks came back swinging on the second day, scoring the first two runs of their first game of the day. Nathan Faust ran in Xavier Gilmore, while Ryder Mortensen ran in Caden Besemer. The Bees responded with one in the first and one in the second. Neither team scored again until the seventh inning. In the seventh, The V-Hawks put up three more runs. Caden Besemer ran in Matt Monaghan, Cody Lozano ran in Xavier Gilmore, and Ryder Mortensen brought in Caden Besemer. The V-Hawks couldn't hold off the Bees. St. Ambrose went on to score four runs in the seventh inning and three in the eighth.
At the plate, the V-Hawks were led by Ryder Mortensen. Ryder had two hits and two RBIs in his four appearances. Cody Lozano also put up two hits for the V-Hawks. Other hits came from Xavier Gilmore, Caden Besemer, and Dane Mediger. Brandon Shepherd pitched six innings for the V-Hawks, allowing two runs and just four hits. Aiden Murphy relieved Brandon Shepherd, allowing six runs and seven hits. Luke Widerholt closed the game with two hits and one run.
GAME FOUR (VU 2, SAU 7)
In the final game of the series, the V-Hawks struck first. They scored a run in the first inning with Ryder Mortensen running in Xavier Gilmore. St. Ambrose responded with four of their own in the first. The V-Hawks struggled to score again, and they allowed three more runs from the Bees in the fifth. In the seventh inning, Matt Monaghan scored the team's final run, running in Anthony Pacheco.
At the plate, the V-Hawks were led my Matt Monaghan. Monaghan had two hits on three at bat appearances with one RBI. Xavier Gilmore also put in two hits for the V-Hawks. Other hits in the game came from Caden Besemer, Ryder Mortensen, Carson Reinhardt, and Hunter Hess. Adam Olson started at the mount for the V-Hawks, pitching five innings, and allowing seven hits and seven runs. Spencer Hautamaki closed for the V-Hawks, pitching one inning and allowing no runs or hits.
UP NEXT
The V-Hawks will return to action as they take on UW-Parkside on the road on Tuesday, March 31. First pitch is set for 2PM. The V-Hawks will return home for a CCAC series on April 3 and April 4 here in La Crosse. On Friday, the games will begin at 1PM, and on Saturday the games will begin at noon.
