V-Hawks Win Home Opener
LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Viterbo University Men's Basketball team came out triumphant on Tuesday evening as they hosted Edgewood College for their home season opener. The V-Hawks rise to 2-1 while the Eagles fall to 0-1.
Cole Crubel would claim four of the first eight points scored by the V-Hawks in the first half, before Braden Crubel would score the next four. Colin Adams would work to score an array of layups and free throws running down the clock in the half. Drawing a foul with only seconds remaining, C. Crubel would sink all three free throws tying up the game 28-28, but the Eagles would pull up from half banking in a buzzer beater to take the lead.
The V-Hawks, coming out of the half ready for 20 more minutes of play would go on an 11 point run lead by Adams and Jake Fisher. Not letting up on the offense Jack Voigt would claim an and one, making the free throw, finding Fisher shortly after for the layup. Adam's finding himself with the opportunity would score three layups, adding the pressure on. With less than a minute remaining in the game, the V-Hawks found themselves on the free throw line, Lydell King sinking both, scoring the final points of the night.
Adams led the V-Hawks with 16, C. Crubel with 14, and Fisher with 11 points. Drew Houtakker led the Eagles with 14.
The V-Hawks outshot the Eagles from the floor 40.0%-35.0% and outrebounded 40-32, though the Eagles outshot the V-Hawks from three 25.0%-16.7%, while committing less turnovers 8-9.
The V-Hawks return to action on Friday, November 8, as they travel to Northwestern for their annual classic.
