Thousand Leads V-Hawks in Conference Win
UNIVERSITY PARK, Ill. – The Viterbo University Men's Basketball team overpowered Governors State University Wednesday afternoon 88-55. The V-Hawks rise to 5-13 (3-8 CCAC) while the Jaguars fall to 8-11 (4-7 CCAC).
Landon Thousand opened the game for the V-Hawks by draining a three and dishing out the next two baskets assists. Off the bench Jacob Watson was a force on the floor creating finishes for Jack Voigt and Cole Crubel in less than a minute of play. Crubel taking point, would score the next nine points for the V-Hawks. Two minutes to go in the half, Thousand would find Crubel for a three and a layup, Carson Koepnick draining a three in between.
The V-Hawks coming out of the half with a lead would find Christian Rohde scoring four of the opening seven. Kole Johnson strong on the offensive would make the play for Watson on the layup before making a layup and knocking down a three of his own. With seven minutes to go and Lydell King on the floor, he would take the three followed by two more jump shots. Colin Adams finding his opening on offense, would knock down a three and a layup before the clock would run out.
C. Crubel led the V-Hawks with 20 and Thousand with 13 and 7 assists. Isaiah Thomas led the Jaguars with 17 points.
The V-Hawks outshot the Jaguars from the floor 60% to 32.7% and from three 59.1% to 36.8% while also outrebounding 34-25.
The V-Hawks return to action Saturday January 25 at home to host Calumet College of St Joseph.
