Thousand Hits Game Winner in 2OT

CHICAGO, Ill. – The Viterbo University Men's Basketball team won the battle in double overtime against Saint Xavier University (Ill) 85-84. The V-Hawks rise to 7-15 (5-10 CCAC) while the Cougars sink to 16-7 (11-4 CCAC).

Lydell King with a quick layup would get the V-Hawks started, Colin Adams finding Cole Crubel for three off an offensive rebound, before finding Carson Koepnick for three taking over in the lead. The V-Hawks narrowly up, Kole Johnson making the put back drawing a foul and knocking down the free throw. Koepnick knocking down the next five V-Hawk points on a three and free throws, before Adams and Christian Rohde would make a series of layups.

The V-Hawks down by two coming out of the half found Landon Thousand for the jumper before dishing the ball to Crubel for three. Adams with five back to back shots drained would keep Viterbo neck and neck with the Cougars. To tie up the game once again Crubel would hit the next two threes before knocking down another one to tie up the game heading into overtime.

King with a steal would run the clock Crubel hitting a crucial three to take the lead, before Adams would knock down the jumper and draw the and one. Down by three Crubel would drain the three to go into double overtime.

The Cougars would take the two point lead to open double OT though a three by Adams would put the V-Hawks up by two, battling for the final lead Thousand would make the layup with seven seconds to go hitting the game winner.

Crubel led the V-Hawks with 24, Adams with 21, and Koepnick with 13. Jordan Jackson led the Cougars with 21 points.

The V-Hawks outshot the Trolls from three 46.4% to 30% and outrebounded 48-33, though were outshot from the floor 51.7% to 41.1%.

The V-Hawks return to action Saturday February 8 at home to host St. Francis.
