V-Hawks Fall to Crimson Wave in Final Seconds
WHITING, Ind. -- The V-Hawks headed east to Indiana this weekend to face off against the Crimson Wave of Calumet. Though the V-Hawks held the lead for most of the game, they fell to the Crimson Wave 85-83. With the loss, the V-Hawks drop to 3-11 overall and 1-7 in CCAC competition. The Crimson Wave improve to a 7-7 overall record with a 4-4 CCAC tally.
Offensively, five V-Hawks scored double-digit points. Landon Thousand led the way with 20 points and six assists, and Colin Adams came in with 14 points. Treyton Fletcher added 11 for the V-Hawks while Jack Voigt and Carson Koepnick each added 10. Defensively, Colin Adams led with eight rebounds and picked up a block. Landon Thousand added two steals and Braden Crubel picked up seven rebounds as well.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Braden Crubel scored early, giving the V-Hawks the opening 3-0 lead
- The Crimson Wave flipped to take the lead at 9-8
- The V-Hawks responded with four of their own points
- The teams were tied at 23-23
- The V-Hawks went on a 13-0 run late in the half to take the 38-27 lead
- More scoring from the V-Hawks earned them a 45-36 lead going into the half
- Treyton Fletcher scored the first six points for the V-Hawks out of the half
- The Crimson Wave crept back in, cutting their deficit to three
- The V-Hawks responded with four of their own
- A Jack Voigt layup gave the V-Hawks a six point lead with 13 minutes remaining
- The Crimson Wave tied it back up at 62-62
- Five points from Jonah Ogunsanya gave the V-Hawks a five point lead with six minutes left
- The Crimson Wave fought back to a 71-71 tie
- Scoring from Treyton Fletcher and Carson Koepnick gave the V-Hawks a 76-71 lead
- The Crimson Wave brought it back to a tie at 80-80
- The V-Hawks fell to a two point deficit with a minute left
- Landon Thousand scored a three to give the V-Hawks an 83-82 lead
- The V-Hawks fouled the Wave on a three-point shot
- The Crimson Wave made all of their free throws, and the V-Hawks fell 85-83
