V-Hawks Stun Tigers, First win Against Olivet Nazarene in Program History
BOURBONNAIS, Ill. -- The V-Hawks headed to Illinois on Saturday to the home of the Olivet Nazarene Tigers. The Tigers are receiving votes in the latest NAIA National Poll, and the V-Hawks came into their house looking to stir up an upset. Through 40 minutes of competition, the V-Hawks completed the upset, coming out on top of a 69-64 win. The V-Hawks improve to 6-12 overall and 4-8 in the CCAC. The Tigers fall to 13-7 overall and 9-3 in the conference.
Offensively, it was all about Landon Thousand. Thousand put up 17 points for the V-Hawks, going 7-10 from the field. Thousand combined 17 points with 11 assists to complete another double-double on the season. Colin Adams and Treyton Fletcher each added double-digit points with Adams earning 13 and Fletcher picking up 11. Defensively, Colin Adams led with eight rebounds, one steal, and two blocks. Jacob Watson added four rebounds as well and Braden Crubel picked up four steals.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The V-Hawks jumped to an early 9-3 lead on a Carson Koepnick three
- The Tigers fought back within two, but scoring from Jack Voigt gave the V-Hawks a 14-9 lead
- The Tigers tied the match at 14-14, and Jack Hennessy responded with a three to give the V-Hawks a 17-14 lead
- A Landon Thousand three gave the V-Hawks a 10 point lead with a minute remaining in the half
- Out of the half, Colin Adams picked up five points to give the V-Hawks a 15 point cushion
- The Tigers fought the game back within four, but scoring from Jack Hennessy and Landon Thousand kept the momentum with the V-Hawks
- The V-Hawks continued to hold a slight edge
- Jacob Watson scored five straight points for the V-Hawks to go up six points with four minutes remaining
- With one minute remaining, the V-Hawks held a 67-61 lead
- The Tigers scored on a three with 35 seconds left
- The V-Hawks were able to get the ball back, and a dunk from Colin Adams sealed the 69-64 win

The V-Hawks will return to their home court on Wednesday, January 28. They are facing the Fighting Bees of Saint Ambrose and tip off is set for 7pm.
