V-Hawks Fall Just Short of Cougars
LA CROSSE, Wis. -- The V-Hawks hosted the Cougars of Saint Xavier this weekend here in La Crosse in another CCAC matchup. The V-Hawks fell to the Cougars 74-71 after a closely contested battle. With the loss, the V-Hawks drop to 6-16 on the season and 4-12 in conference play. The Cougars extend to 10-13 overall and 8-8 in the conference.
Offensively, Carson Koepnick led for the V-Hawks with 16 points, shooting at 6-9 from the field and 4-6 from three. Landon Thousand added 13 points as well while Colin Adams added 12 to the count. Defensively, Treyton Fletcher led with seven rebounds while Colin Adams added six rebounds. Adams also picked up a block.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The V-Hawks went down 10-1 early in the game
- A 10-0 run for the V-Hawks gave them the 11-10 early lead
- Saint Xavier grabbed the lead back
- Scoring from Carson Koepnick and Treyton Fletcher gave the V-Hawks a 16-16 tie
- The teams continued the back and forth
- A three from Jack Hennessy gave the V-Hawks a 33-25 lead
- The V-Hawks went up ten points at 37-27
- Saint Xavier tied it at 37-37 going into the half
- Out of the half, Colin Adams scored first
- The V-Hawks took the slight lead, but the Cougars responded
- The teams remained tied at 53-53 on a Jack Voigt layup
- The teams were tied again at 71-71 after a made three from Carson Koepnick
- Late free throws from Saint Xavier gave them the edge, and the V-Hawks fell 74-71

The V-Hawks return to competition on Wednesday, February 11. They will face off against the Judson Eagles with a tip off set for 5PM. The game will be in Elgin, Illinois and can be streamed via the V-Hawk Athletics website.
