LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Viterbo University Men's Soccer team claimed the win over St. Fracis University on Saturday afternoon. The V-Hawks now sit at 4-5-4 (CCAC 3-1-4) while the Fighting Saints sit at 4-8-2 (CCAC 0-7-2).
The V-Hawks would claim dominance over possession early in the match, Nicolas Lopez conquering with the first shot on goal of the game landing, setting the V-Hawks up 1-0 only four minutes into the match. With the pressure on the Fighting Saints would look to score though Ernesto Ascenzo would claim his first save of the day. In the 38th minute Lopez would take to the net once again on a penalty kick, completing a hat trick and setting the V-Hawks up 3-0. Luis Torres Enriquez would find Johan Hamnstrom with five minutes remaining in the half where Hamnstrom would succeed in finding the back of the net.
Nicolas Nunez Osorio would take the first shots of the second half, landing both only minutes apart, sending the V-Hawks up 6-0. VU continuing to control the game would take a series of shots by Sebastian Acosta, followed by three corner kicks resulting in a goal by freshman Ted Holstein. In the final minutes of the match SFU would look to score one last time, Ascenzo sweeping in and claiming another save.
The V-Hawks took 26 shots with 15 landing on goal, while the Fighting Saints took eight shots six landing on goal. Viterbo goalkeeper, Ascenzo recorded six saves on the day.
The V-Hawks return to the pitch Wednesday, October 30 on the road at Saint Ambrose.
