V-Hawks Defeat Trinity Christian, Notch 10th Win of the Season
LA CROSSE, Wis. -- The V-Hawks got ready on their home field on Tuesday afternoon to face off against the Trolls of Trinity Christian in a heated conference battle. Going into the contest, the V-Hawks were 6-2 in CCAC play, while the Trolls were 5-3. Through 90 minutes, the V-Hawks pulled out the 1-0 victory, and they improve to 10-4-2 overall and 7-2 in CCAC play. The Trolls move to 7-7-3 overall and 5-4 in conference competition.
Throughout the game, the V-Hawks took 12 shots in comparison to the Trolls' seven. Five of the V-Hawk shots landed on goal, and one scored. The V-Hawks were the aggressors on the offense, taking nine corner kicks to their one. Defensively, Peter Kolenyo grabbed three saves to complete the shutout.
The first half opened with an early shot by Tanner Hall followed by another shot from Ronmel Alfaro. Minutes later, another shot by Andrii Ketsuk went wide to the right. At the 15 minute mark, the V-Hawks earned their first corner kick, taken by Alvaro Paquete Oliveira. The V-Hawks continued to be the aggressors in the first half, taking several more shots. The first half remained scoreless.
In the second half, the V-Hawks jumped out early, earning a corner kick just one minute into the half, taken by Sebastian Acosta. The V-Hawks took another shot at 50 minutes and again at 52 minutes. Another shot at 52 minutes resulted in the one and only goal of the day. The goal was scored by Alvaro Paquete Oliveira, assisted by Sebastian Acosta off of a free kick. The V-Hawks held off the Trolls, and a late shot by the Trolls was saved by Peter Kolenyo in the 82nd minute. Trinity Christian had one final chance with a corner kick in the 89th minute, but it was no match for the V-Hawks. Viterbo won the CCAC game 1-0.
