LA CROSSE, Wis. -- The V-Hawks took to the field on Saturday to compete against the Cougars of Saint Xavier in the CCAC Semifinal match. The match was extremely hard-fought by both teams, pushing the game into double-overtime. The V-Hawks eventually came out victorious, winning the match 2-1. 

The V-Hawks were led offensively by Johan Hamnstrom. He scored both goals for the V-Hawks to assist the team in advancing to the CCAC Championship match. Konstantin Tskhadadze put forth an incredible defensive effort, picking up three saves, with one of them being a penalty stop. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The V-Hawks started hot, taking a couple of shots in the first few minutes of the game. Saint Xavier responded with shots of their own and a corner kick, and they picked up an attempt at a penalty kick at the 12 minute mark. The penalty kick was saved by goalie Konstantin Tskhadadze in a miraculous effort. Each team took a few more shots in the half, but the teams went into halftime tied at 0-0. 
  • Saint Xavier got the first shot in the second half, missing high. They shot once again, but it was saved by the V-Hawk keeper. Saint Xavier got a good look at the goal and scored at 63:13 from Jaedan Aguilera. The V-Hawks responded just 10 seconds later when Johan Hamnstrom scored at 63:23, assisted by Emil Larsson. Both teams fought to get one more score in the regulation period, but the teams went into overtime with a score of 1-1 at the end of regulation. 
  • In the first overtime, Ronmel took a shot at 95 minutes, but it was off goal. At 98 minutes, Ted Holstein got a good look at the goal, but the Cougars were able to save the golden goal. The V-Hawks had a corner kick at 98' and another shot by Mateo Torres at 99 minutes. The score remained locked at the end of 100 minutes. 
  • In the second overtime, there was only one shot, and it was the golden goal. Johan Hamnstrom scored at 104 minutes, assisted by Alvaro Paquete Oliviera and Ronmel Alfaro to defeat the Cougars.

The V-Hawks will compete in the CCAC Championships on Wednesday, November 12. The game will take place at Olivet Nazarene at 6pm.
