V-Hawks Fall in Pair of Road Matches

SIOUX CENTER, Iowa -- The V-Hawks traveled west to Iowa on Friday to face off against Dordt and Jamestown on the road. The V-Hawks fell to Dordt in straight sets, but fought hard against Jamestown, eventually falling in five sets. The V-Hawks fall to 0-7 on the season. 

In the match against Dordt, the V-Hawks were ofensively led by Riley Connors' six kills. Ethan Davis and Styrk Myhre each added four kills to the tally as well. The set was led by Logan Amdur. Amdur added 10 assists for the V-hawks. Defensively, Caleb Koza led the front court with three blocks, while Daxton Marschall led the back court with six digs. Roman Rzeszutko and Ethan Davis each added five digs. 

Against Jamestown, Ethan Davis and Logan Amdur led offensively. Davis contributed 12 kills while Amdur added 10 on a 0.250 hitting efficiency. Riley Connors added seven kills and Owen Collitt picked up six. Amdur led the way in assists, picking up a double-double with 17 assists. Defensively, Daxton Marschall added 18 digs, and Owen Collitt added six blocks.

HOW IT HAPPENED (vs DORDT)

• The V-Hawks went down early in the first set 6-3. Kills by Owen Collitt and Logan Amdur helped the V-Hawks to fight back a little, but Dordt continued pulling away. The V-Hawks went down 17-10 in the middle of the set, and Dordt continued on a series of small runs. The V-Hawks eventually fell in set one 25-14. 
• A kill by Riley Connors opened up scoring for the V-Hawks in set two. The V-Hawks kept the set within one point until Dordt went on a 3-0 run. A kill by Riley Connors and another by Styrk Myhre cut the run short and the V-Hawks fought back within one with a kill from Owen Collitt. The V-Hawks brought the game to a tie with a kill from Ethan Davis. Dordt pulled away again, going up 23-20 late in the set. The V-Hawks fell in set two 25-21. 
• In set three, the V-hawks took an early 5-2 lead. The V-Hawks held the lead, but a run by Dordt pulled the Defenders in front of the V-Hawks at 15-10. A pair of V-Hawk points brought them back within three, but Dordt responded with a 6-0 run. Riley Connors cut off the run, but it was too late. The V-Hawks fell in set three 25-18. 

HOW IT HAPPENED (vs JAMESTOWN)

• The V-Hawks scored the first three points of the game with a kill from Logan Amdur and a block form Caleb Koza and Owen Collitt. The V-Hawks extended their lead after a Logan Amdur ace at 13-8 and continued extending it to 17-10. Jamestown went on a short run with back-to-back aces, but the V-Hawks remained in the lead at 19-16. Jamestown forced the game into extra points at 24-24. A Justin Kratzenstein kill gave the V-Hawks a 25-24 edge. The V-Hawks went on to win the set 28-26. 
• In set two, Owen Collitt scored the first point for the V-Hawks. The V-Hawks went on a pair of 3-0 runs early to take a 10-6 lead. The V-Hawks got ahead by five points at 17-12 to force the Jamestown timeout. Jamestown fought back within three, but the V-Hawks held strong and closed out the set on back-to-back kills from Riley Connors to win 25-20. 
• The V-Hawks went down 9-7 early in the third set. Jamestown pulled away at 17-12 and forced a V-Hawk timeout. Out of the timeout, the V-Hawks fought back within four points. Despite their efforts, Jamestown continued to pull away, and the V-Hawks fell in set three 25-17. 
• The V-Hawks scored five of the first six points in set four with three kills from Ethan Davis and a block from Logan Amdur and Justin Kratzenstein. The V-Hawks held the lead at 10-9 on a Noah Diedrich kill. Jamestown pulled away on a 4-0 run followed by a 5-0 run to take the 21-13 lead. The V-Hawks struggled to fight back and fell in set four 25-15. 
• In set five, the V-Hawks earned their first point on an Owen Collitt kill. Jamestown took the early 6-2 lead, but a Justin Kratzenstein block gave the V-Hawks some momentum. Jamestown went on a 3-0 run to take the 11-5 lead and force the V-Hawk timeout. The V-Hawks eventually fell in set five 15-6.
