V-Hawks Fall to Jaguars in CCAC Competition
LA CROSSE, Wis. -- The V-Hawks hosted the Jaguars of Governors State in La Crosse on Wednesday as part of a triangular match. After four hard-fought sets of competition, the V-Hawks came up short against the Jaguars. The V-Hawks fall to 3-12 with the loss overall and 2-2 in CCAC play. The Jaguars improve to 8-7 overall and 2-0 in CCAC play.
The V-Hawks were led offensively by Logan Amdur. Amdur put up seven kills for the V-Hawks. Caleb Koza, Owen Collitt, Riley Connors, and Ethan Davis each added five kills to the V-Hawk efforts, with Collitt hitting an impressive 0.400 efficiency. From the set, Amdur led with 14 assists, and in the back court, Daxton Marschall led with digs. Leo Kangas picked up the only aces of the day for the V-Hawks, and Owen Collitt led in the blocking category with five.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The V-Hawks went down 7-2 early in set one after the Jaguars put together a 5-0 run. The V-Hawks continued to fight, getting within two points at 13-11. Governors State earned two runs of four points each, and the V-Hawks were down 22-14. Two late kills from Logan Amdur brought the V-Hawks their final points of the set, and they fell 25-16.
- In the second set, Ethan Davis scored the first point on a kill. At 6-5, the V-Hawks went on a 5-0 run to take the 10-6 lead over the Jaguars. Governors State responded, tying the set at 15-15. The V-Hawks earned six straight points to go up 21-16 with blocks coming from Logan Amdur, Ethan Davis, and Styrk Myhre. The V-Hawks closed out set two 25-19.
- In the third set, Governors State jumped to an 8-2 lead, forcing a V-Hawk timeout. Out of the timeout, Riley Connors earned a kill. The V-Hawks scored five straight with two aces from Leo Kangas to bring the set within two at 11-9. Governors State continued pulling away despite kills from Logan Amdur and Styrk Myhre. The V-Hawks fell in set three 25-17.
- In set four, the V-Hawks stayed close with the Jaguars up to 10-10. The Jaguars put together a series of short runs to take the 14-11 lead. Governors State took a 5-0 run later to go up 19-12 in the fourth set. The V-Hawks final kill of the game came from Styrk Myhre. Despite their efforts, the V-Hawks fell in set four 25-15.
