V-Hawks Close Arizona Trip With a Sweep
MESA, Arizona -- The V-Hawks rounded out their time in Arizona by traveling to Mesa to face off against Park-Gilbert. Throughout the competition, the V-Hawks were able to remain in control of the match, eventually taking the 3-0 sweeping victory. With the win, the V-Hawks improve to 5-15 overall, while Park-Gilbert falls to 4-8 on the season.
Offensively, the V-Hawks were led by massive performances from Ethan Davis, Riley Connors, and Logan Amdur. Davis led with 12 kills at a 0.476 efficiency. Riley Connors added 11 kills at a 0.421 clip, while Logan Amdur went errorless for eight kills on a 0.500 efficiency. Both Logan Amdur and Roman Rzeszutko added 16 assists to the V-hawks efforts. In the back court, Max Dugan led with seven digs, and in the front court, Styrk Myhre led with six blocks.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The V-Hawks scored first in the first set with a kill from Owen Collitt. The set remained close, tying several times throughout. The V-Hawks took a lead at 20-19 after an Ethan Davis kill, but Park-Gilbert rallied off three straight points, and the V-Hawks were down 22-20. Out of a timeout, the V-Hawks strung together four straight points with two blocks and a kill from Styrk Myhre. The V-Hawks finished the first set with a 25-22 victory on a Logan Amdur kill.
- In set two, the teams remained close early on, but the V-Hawks quickly pulled away on a 5-1 run. The V-Hawks held their five point lead, expanding on it with a kill from Riley Connors and a block by Styrk Myhre and Logan Amdur to go up 17-10. Park-Gilbert fought back with a 5-1 run of their own, but the V-Hawks responded with back-to-back-to-back kills from Ethan Davis to take back the 22-15 lead. The V-Hawks ran away with the set, winning 25-19 in the second to go up two sets to none.
- In the third set, a kill by Ethan Davis opened competition. Both teams remained close, with the V-Hawks consistently holding the one point edge through most of the first half of the game. The V-Hawks took their first two point lead at 15-13 on a Daxton Marschall ace. Park-Gilbert remained within one point at 17-16, but the V-Hawks put up six straight points, marked by an Ethan Davis ace. The V-Hawks closed the set on a kill from Riley Connors 25-17, securing the sweep.

The V-Hawks will return to La Crosse to compete in a triangular match on Saturday, March 14. They will play #2 Saint Xavier at 12:30pm and will face off against Clarke at 5pm.
