V-Hawks Season Comes to a Close in CCAC Quarterfinal Match
DAVENPORT, Iowa -- The V-Hawks hit the road on Tuesday night to compete in the CCAC Tournament. The top six teams of the conference qualify for the tournament, and the V-Hawks came in fifth, facing off against the fourth seed, St. Ambrose. The V-Hawks fought throughout the game, eventually falling to the Fighting Bees 3-1. With the loss, the V-Hawks finish their season with a 9-24 record, improving from last season.
The team was led on the night by Ethan Davis and Logan Amdur. Ethan put up 12 kills while Amdur added nine to the tally. Amdur also led in assists with 17 on the night. Roman Rzeszutko added 14 assists for the V-Hawks as well. Defensively, Max Dugan and Ethan Davis each had 10 digs in the back court, and Styrk Myhre led in the front court with five blocks, followed by four blocks each from Riley Connors and Logan Amdur.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The V-Hawks struggled early, going down 8-3 in the first set. The V-Hawks strung together four straight points with a kill from Riley Connors and an ace from Leo Kangas to get back within one. The two teams tied at 10-10 on a Styrk Myhre block. Later in the set, the Bees put together a short run to take the lead at 20-15. A kill from Logan Amdur slowed the momentum, but the V-Hawks eventually fell in set one 25-18.
- In the second set, the Bees scored the first five points. The V-Hawks pushed to get the set back within two points at 10-8 with a Logan Amdur kill. The V-Hawks held in with the Bees until they went on a 5-0 run to put the V-Hawks down 16-9. A block by Styrk Myhre and Riley Connors slowed the Bees down, and the team continued to go point for point with the Bees. Late in the set, Ethan Davis collected a kill as the V-Hawks attempted to fight back, but the Bees took set two 25-18.
- In the third set, the V-Hawks scored first on a kill from Ethan Davis. Two killls from Caleb Koza gave them the early lead. Later in the set, the V-Hawks put together four straight points to extend their lead at 9-6. The team continued to hold their lead by one point through most of the set. At 17-16, the V-Hawks went off for five straight points to take the 22-16 lead. The V-Hawks went on to win 25-21 on a block from Caleb Koza and Styrk Myhre.
- In set four, the V-Hawks scored first on a Logan Amdur ace. They took the 4-1 lead, but the Bees responded with a 7-0 run. The V-Hawks continued fighting back, getting within three points at 13-10. Later in the set, the V-Hawks found themselves down six points. Though they continued to fight with kills from Caleb Koza and Riley Connors, the V-Hawks eventually dropped the fourth set 25-19 to end the game.
With the loss, the V-Hawks' season comes to a close. The V-Hawk Athletics Department recognizes Logan Amdur, Caleb Koza, Daxton Marschall, and Justin Kratzenstein for their dedication and commitment to the team and extends their best wishes to their futures.
