V-Hawks Drop Two in First Tucson Games
TUCSON, Arizona -- The V-Hawks headed out to Arizona for the spring break week to compete in a series of ten games over the course of six days. Through their first two games against Valley City State and Carroll (MT), the V-Hawks came up short, going 0-2 on the first day. Against Valley City State, the V-Hawks fell 15-4, and against Carroll, the V-Hawks fell 14-3. With the two losses, the V-Hawks drop to 2-8 overall this season.
AGAINST VALLEY CITY STATE
The V-Hawks started strong, going up early on a single from Courtney Denton. With the single, she was able to run in Marissa Carter-Olson to be the first ones on the board in the second inning. Valley City State responded with a massive eleven-run inning. In the third inning, the V-Hawks fought back, picking up three runs. Natalie Martin scored one on a home run. Alexis Watson grounded a ball to run in Marissa Carter-Olson, and Alyssa Roos singled to run in Watson. The V-Hawks struggled to score again, and Valley City State picked up four more runs in the third inning to close the scoring in the game.
From the plate, several V-Hawks picked up a hit. The RBIs for the game came from Natalie Martin, Alexis Watson, Courtney Denton, and Alyssa Roos. Marissa Carter-Olson picked up one hit in two at-bats, and she scored two of the runs for the V-Hawks. Alexis Watson pitched three innings for the V-Hawks, giving up nine runs, while Mia Weithaus pitched one inning, allowing six runs.
AGAINST CARROLL (MT)
The V-Hawks scored first in this game on a hit from Kate Martin. Her hit led to an RBI, running in Alyssa Roos. Carroll responded, picking up three runs in the second inning and one in the third. The V-Hawks claimed another run in the third on an Elie Klar double that ran in Makella Jacobs. Carroll wasn't backing down, and they ran in six runs in the fourth inning. In the bottom of the fourth, Ava Anderson made it in for a run on a stolen base. Carroll closed the game on more scoring in the fifth inning.
Elie Klar led the V-Hawks in batting. She had two at-bat appearances and had hits on both appearances, with one of her hits earning an RBI. Other hits came from Alyssa Roos, Makella Jacobs, and Ava Anderson. Pitching, the V-Hawks started with Sydnie Newell. Newell pitched 3.1 innings, allowing 10 runs. Makenzie Woodhouse came in for one inning, allowing four runs. Mia Weithaus closed for the V-Hawks in the final inning, allowing no runs and just one hit.
