V-Hawks drop final two games in Arizona
TUCSON, Arizona -- The V-Hawk softball team rounded out their Arizona trip with competitions against Mayville State and Midland. Against Mayville State, the V-Hawks played a closely contested match against Mayville State, dropping 7-6. Against Midland, the V-Hawks fell 19-5. With the losses, the V-Hawks fall to 3-15 on the season.
AGAINST MAYVILLE STATE
Mayville State scored first, putting up three runs in the bottom of the first inning. The V-Hawks were able to hold off Mayville State through the second inning. In the third inning, the V-Hawks put their first runs on the board. Elie Klar earned an RBI, running in Grace Elton on a sac fly. The other scoring came from Ava Anderson stealing home. The V-Hawks held off Mayville State again in the third and fourth. In the fifth, the V-Hawks earned two more runs. Natalie Martin singled to run in Alyssa Roos, and an Alexis Watson double ran in Elie Klar. In the bottom of the fifth, Mayville State scored again. The V-Hawks picked up their final runs in the top of the seventh. Ava Anderson picked up two RBIs on a double, running in Makella Jacobs and Grace Elton. The V-Hawks were unable to stop Mayville State, as they ran in three runs in the seventh inning to take the win.
From the plate, the V-Hawks were led by Ava Anderson. Anderson had two hits and two RBIs through five at bat appearances. Alyssa Roos also picked up two hits through her performances. Other hits came from Elie Klar, Natalie Martin, Alexis Watson, Marissa Carter-Olson, and Makayla Nortman. Makenzie Woodhouse pitched six innings of the competition, allowing six runs and eight hits. Sydnie Newell came in to finish the game, allowing one run and two hits.
AGAINST MIDLAND
The V-Hawks jumped to an early score with Alexis Watson earning an RBI in the first inning by running in Alyssa Roos on a single. The V-Hawks held off Midland in the first and second. In the second inning, Ava Anderson picked up an RBI and ran in Makella Jacobs. Midland responded in the third inning with four runs. They added two more runs in the fourth, and one run in the fifth. The V-Hawks were able to respond with some scoring in the fifth. Marissa Carter-Olson ran in Elie Klar. Makella Jacobs picked up an RBI, running in Alexis Watson. The final scoring came from Grace Elton running in Aydenn Sutton. Midland responded with 12 runs in the sixth inning to finish the game.
At the plate, the V-Hawks were led by Alexis Watson, Marissa Carter-Olson, and Makella Jacobs. Each of them had two hits and an RBI. Alexis Watson started pitching, allowing seven runs and 11 hits. Mia Weithaus came in to relieve Watson, allowing seven runs and six hits. Sydnie Newell came in to finish, allowing five runs and four hits.
