V-Hawks pick up a pair of CCAC road victories
PALOS HEIGHT, Ill. -- The V-Hawks traveled east this weekend to face off against the Trolls of Trinity Christian in a three-game series against the conference foe. The V-Hawks went 2-1 in the series. With the wins, the V-Hawks move to 6-21 overall this season and 3-6 in conference competitions. Trinity Christian moves to 6-19 overall and 1-8 in the CCAC.
GAME ONE (VU 4, TC 5)
The V-Hawks fell flat to open the first game of the series, allowing all five of Trinity Christian's runs in the first inning. In the third inning, the V-Hawks scored their first runs. Rylee Koeller doubled to run in Ava Anderson and Makayla Nortman. Also in the third inning, Marissa Carter-Olson singled to run in Rylee Koeller. The V-Hawks scored their final run in the sixth inning when Makella Jacobs sent a homer over the left field fence for a single run.
From the plate, the V-Hawks were led by Ava Anderson. Anderson had two hits in three at bat appearances. Other hits came from Rylee Koeller, Marissa Carter-Olson, and Makella Jacobs. Alexis Watson pitched the full six innings, allowing five runs and six hits. Watson threw 123 pitches with 70 resulting in strikes, facing 30 batters.
GAME TWO (VU 11, TC 8)
In the second game of the series, the V-Hawks came back with revenge. The V-Hawks scored seven runs in the first inning. Elie Klar ran in Ava Anderson. Marissa Carter-Olson ran in Rylee Koeller. On a walk, Elie Klar scored. Natalie Martin singled to right field, running in Marissa Carter-Olson. The next RBI came from Grace Elton, running in Makella Jacobs. The final first-inning scoring came from a Makayla Nortman RBI that ran in Alexis Watson and Natalie Martin. Trinity Christian responded with eight runs between the second and third innings. The V-Hawks scored two more in the fourth inning when Makella Jacobs picked up her second home run of the series, running in Rylee Koeller and Elie Klar. In the sixth inning, Jacobs did it again, putting up a homer to earn the V-Hawks' 11th run.
From the plate, the V-Hawks were led by an impressive performance from Makella Jacobs. In four at bat appearances, Makella had four hits and four RBIs as well as two home runs. Natalie Martin picked up three hits and one RBI, while Elie Klar had two hits and one RBI. Other hits came from Ava Anderson, Makayla Nortman, and Rylee Koeller. Makenzie Woodhouse started pitching for the V-Hawks, pitching two innings and allowing four runs and three hits. Sydnie Newell finished the game, pitching five innings and allowing four runs and three hits.
GAME THREE (VU 7, TC 6)
In the third game of the series, Trinity Christian struck first, scoring three runs in the first inning, followed by two more in the fifth inning. The V-Hawks wouldn't back down. In the fifth inning, the V-Hawks matched the Trolls, putting up five runs. Scoring started with a Natalie Martin single that ran in Natalie Martin. Autumn Meris ran in Natalie Martin. A triple from Rylee Koeller brought in Elie Klar and Courtney Denton for the third and fourth run. Marissa Carter-Olson scored one more for the V-Hawks, bringing in Rylee Koeller. In the seventh inning, Trinity Christian scored once again, giving the Trolls the 6-5 edge over the V-Hawks. In crunch time, Makayla Nortman ran in Ava Anderson to tie the game 6-6. Rylee Koeller walked it off for the V-Hawks, singling to center field and running in Makayla Nortman to call the game.
At the plate, the V-Hawks were led by Rhlee Koeller. Koeller had two hits and three RBIs. Other hits came from Makayla Nortman, Elie Klar, Marissa Carter-Olson, Alexis Watson, Natalie Martin, and Courtney Denton. Alexis Watson pitched another full game for the V-Hawks, allowing six runs and eight hits. Watson threw 106 pitches with 71 strikes. She faced 35 batters in her performance.

The V-Hawks will return home on Wednesday, April 1 for a double-header against Waldorf. First pitch is set for 2PM against the Warriors.
