V-Hawks Soar to New Heights, Claim Two More CCAC Wins

ELGIN, Ill. -- The V-Hawks headed east for another conference series against the Judson Eagles on Friday and Saturday. The V-Hawks claimed two of the three wins over the weekend, breaking 10 conference wins on the season, the team's most since 2023. With the wins, the V-Hawks improve to 15-26 on the season and 10-11 in conference competition. 

GAME ONE (VU 14, JUDSON 3)

The V-Hawks started the series with a dominant win over the Eagles. The V-Hawks struck first, scoring their first run of the game on an error in the second inning. In the bottom of the second, the Eagles tied it up at 1-1. In the third inning, the V-Hawks took off. 

Going into the fourth inning, the V-Hawks held a 7-2 lead. In the fourth, Grace Elton ran in Rylee Koeller on a ground out to short stop. In the bottom of the fourth, the Eagles scored once more for their final run of the game. In the fifth inning, Marissa Carter-Olson brought in two runs on a single, running in Elie Klar and Sydnie Newell. The V-Hawks went off once again in the sixth inning. 

The V-Hawks won the first game 14-3. 

The team was led from the plate by Marissa Carter-Olson and Alexis Watson. Both had three hits and two RBIs in five plate appearances. Both Ava Anderson and Elie Klar added two hits and three RBIs. Each had a home run as well. Other hits on the game came from Sydnie Newell, Makella Jacobs, Rylee Koeller, and Kate Olsen

Alexis Watson pitched the full game for the V-Hawks, allowing only nine hits and three runs through six innings pitched. She threw 136 pitches on the game with 71 being strikes. She faced 32 batters, throwing a total of five strikeouts. 

GAME TWO (VU 3, JUDSON 11)

In the second game of the series, the V-Hawks struggled to slow down the Eagles. In the first inning, the V-Hawks scored on a Marissa Carter-Olson single that ran in Elie Klar. In the second, Ava Anderson added a double to run in Kate Olsen. In the second inning, the Eagles responded with seven runs scored. The V-Hawks attempted to fight back with an Ava Anderson homer, but the Eagles eventually closed out the game with four more runs in the fourth inning to take the 11-3 victory. 

At the plate, Ava Anderson led for the V-Hawks. She had two hits and two RBIs in her three appearances. Other hits on the game came from Elie Klar, Marissa Carter-Olson, and Alexis Watson. Makenzie Woodhouse started pitching for the V-Hawks, allowing four runs in her single inning. Mia Weithaus pitched the rest of the game, allowing seven runs and six hits. She threw 67 pitches with 39 of them being strikes over the course of 19 batters faced. 

GAME THREE (VU 17, JUDSON 6)

In the third game of the series, the V-Hawks came out with fire. The team scored four runs in the first inning. The first two came on a Makella Jacobs double that ran in Elie Klar and Rylee Koeller. The next two came on an Alexis Watson double that brought in Makayla Nortman and Marissa Carter-Olson. Between the second and third innings, the V-Hawks collected another six runs. 

  • Ava Anderson scored first, sending another home run into center field
  • Courtney Denton brought in one run on a single that ran in Marissa Carter-Olson
  • In the third inning of the competition, Ava Anderson stepped up to the plate with the bases fully loaded. She cranked one to left field to clear the bases and collect her first career grand slam. 

In the third inning the Eagles responded with two runs, but the V-Hawks continued to outscore them. In the fifth inning, the V-Hawks picked up three more runs. Ava Anderson scored on an error, Marissa Carter-Olson ran in Rylee Koeller, and Elie Klar also scored on an error. The Eagles added four more runs in the fifth, but in the sixth inning, the V-Hawks collected another four runs. Makella Jacobs brought in Rylee Koeller, Marissa Carter-Olson ran in Makella Jacobs and Elie Klar, and the final run came on an Alexis Watson single that brought in Aydenn Sutton

At the plate, the V-Hawks were led by Ava Anderson. Anderson had two hits and five RBIs in her five at-bat appearances. Alexis Watson also had three hits and three RBIs for the V-Hawks. Other hits on the day came from Rylee Koeller, Elie Klar, Makella Jacobs, Marissa Carter-Olson, Makayla Nortman, and Courtney Denton

Alexis Watson pitched another full game, throwing 105 pitches for 69 strikes. She allowed six runs and seven hits in her performance, throwing three strikeouts. She faced 27 batters in her game and collects her ninth win from the circle.

The V-Hawks will host Mount Mary on Tuesday and Wednesday. On Tuesday, the V-Hawks will face the Blue Angels in a double-header beginning at 2PM. On Wednesday, they will compete in a single game beginning at 2PM.
