Three V-Hawks in Double Digits Not Enough

CHICAGO, Ill. – The Viterbo University Women's Basketball team fell to Saint Xavier University (Ill) on Wednesday evening 72-65. The V-Hawks sink to 12-11 (CCAC 5-10) while the Cougars improve to 14-9 (CCAC 10-5).

Emily McCurdy began the scoring for the V-Hawks before dishing an assist to Marley Hughes for the three. The V-Hawks down by 11 would find Olivia Lambrigtsen for one last layup.

Looking to close the gap in the lead, Macy Stellner would find Carly Drew for three before draining a three of her own. Ending an 11 point run by the Cougars Aubrey Dorn and Nicole Johnson would make back to back layups, Johnson working in the paint for one more before the half.

Lambrigtsen with the fast break and the layup opened the floor for Viterbo in the second half. VU still down by 10 found McCurdy draining a three and dishing an assist for the Dorn layup bringing the score within seven.

Drawing the foul Lambrigtsen took to the line and then knocking down a three. Less than three minutes to go in game Johnson would make the layup then taking to the line for free throw attempts. McCurdy with the assist on a Lambrigtsen jumper, draining a three and taking to the line.

Johnson, Lambrigtsen, and McCurdy led the V-Hawks with 13 points each. Aaliyahna Derrell led the Cougars with 18.  

The V-Hawks were outshot from the floor 50% to 36.4%, though the V-Hawks shot better from three 39.1% to 25% and outrebounded 44-26.

The V-Hawks return to action Saturday February 8 at home to host St. Francis.
