V-Hawks Fall to Titans in Nail-Biting Ending
LA CROSSE, Wis. -- The V-Hawks returned to the home court for the first time in 2026 to face off against the Titans of Indiana South Bend on Wednesday night. After four quarters of play, the V-Hawks fell to the Titans 78-72, falling to 5-10 overall and 3-5 in the CCAC. The Titans improve to 10-5 overall and 5-2 in the CCAC.
Offensively, Lauryn Goettl and Nora Tucker took the lead. Goettl put up 17 points for the V-Hawks, going 6-12 from the field, scoring her highest number of points since December 3, 2024. Nora Tucker added 16 to the count as well, shooting at 50% from the three point line. Goettl also led the defensive effort for the V-Hawks, putting up nine rebounds and adding three steals. Nora Tucker also added four steals to the count. Pearla Teko-Folly picked up five assists and five rebounds for the V-Hawks, and Marley Hughes earned double-digit points with 10.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The V-Hawks started off slow, going down 7-2 early in the first
- A Marley Hughes' three-pointer led the team to a 7-5 deficit
- The Titans went on a 12 point run and the V-Hawks went down 21-5
- A late shot from Kira John put the V-Hawks down 21-7 at the end of the first quarter
- The V-Hawks put together a string of seven points in the second quarter to get within nine points
- The Titans continued extending their lead, outscoring the V-Hawks 21-15 in the second quarter
- Going into halftime, the V-Hawks were down 42-22
- Out of the half, the V-Hawks began to explode offensively, putting up nearly 30 points in the third quarter
- Seven unanswered points from the V-Hawks put the team within 14
- Another run of eight points put the V-Hawks within eight points of the Titans
- At the end of the quarter, the V-Hawks were down 10 points with 10 minutes to play
- In the fourth, Marley Hughes dropped in a three-pointer followed by scoring from Goettl
- A 6-0 run for the V-Hawks brought the teams to a tie at 62-62
- The Titans drew the score back up to 66-62 in their favor
- Scoring from Hughes and Teko-Folly brought the score back within one point
- The V-Hawks continued to fight, staying in the game
- The Titans pulled away in the final two minutes, defeating the V-Hawks 78-72
