V-Hawks Secure Huge Upset, Drew with Career-High

LA CROSSE, Wis. -- The V-Hawks hosted the number 21 ranked Fighting Saints of Saint Francis this weekend in their fourteenth conference competition of the season. The V-Hawks came away with a major win 78-69 through four quarters of play. With the win, the V-Hawks improve to 10-11 on the season and 8-6 in CCAC play. They hand Saint Francis their third loss of the season, moving to 20-3 overall and 12-3 in the CCAC. 

Offensively, the V-Hawks were led by an impressive performance from Carly Drew. Drew scored 31 points, goin 11-17 from the field and draining six three-pointers. Nora Tucker also went off with 19 points, going 8-13 from the field with two threes. Defensively, Carly Drew also led, collecting the double-double with 12 rebounds. She also added two steals. Marley Hughes added five rebounds as well.

  • The V-Hawks went down 15-7 early
  • Three from Shayna Williamson followed by three from Nora Tucker put the V-Hawks within two
  • The Saints held an 18-15 lead with 10 seconds left in the first
  • A buzzer-beating three from Carly Drew tied the game at 18-18 after the first
  • The V-Hawks opened with a 4-0 run in the second quarter
  • A three from Lauryn Goettl and two from Kira John gave the V-Hawks a 31-23 lead
  • The Saints fought back within one
  • Carly Drew scored last for the V-Hawks, and the V-Hawks held a 36-32 lead into halftime
  • Out of the half, Nora Tucker drained a three to extend the lead
  • The Saints stole the lead back at 49-48
  • Three from Carly Drew gave the V-Hawks the lead
  • The teams were tied at 53-53 going into the fourth
  • Early scoring from Nora Tucker and Carly Drew gave the V-Hawks a 60-55 lead
