V-Hawks Downed by Trolls

Palos Heights, Ill. – The Viterbo University Women's Soccer team was defeated by Trinity Christian College on Tuesday afternoon 1-0. The V-Hawks fall to 4-4-0 (CCAC 1-2-0) while the Trolls rise to 4-2-5 (CCAC 2-1-1).

The V-Hawks would kick off the match with two corner kicks by Brooke Clements, followed by a shot by Emma Schwinn landing high. Lauren Wedig's shot in the 12th minute would be the first on goal for the V-Hawks, while Jenna Bennett recorded a shot landing wide a minute later. The V-Hawks would keep control of the ball until TCC would breakaway and take a shot on goal, giving Veerle Vriens her first save of the match. Viterbo would respond by retaking possession, taking back to back shots by Elle Hager and Maya Bubbers, both blocked, while Bennett would swoop in for a shot on goal. Bennett would look to score in the 44th minute, though unsuccessful, heading into the half 0-0.

Vriens would dive for the save in the 47th minute, though the Trolls would find the back of the net a minute later. Kelcie Karweick would take the first shot of the half for the V-Hawks landing wide, shortly after Clements took to the net without success. Following a series of substitutions Vriens would record her final save of the match in the 84th minute. With the match on the line, Evelyn Shaw would look to tie up the match with three minutes remaining, the match ending shortly after 1-0 Trolls.

The V-Hawks attempted 11 shots, four landing on goal, while Vriens recorded four saves.

The V-Hawks return to the pitch Saturday, October 5 as they host Holy Cross.
