LA CROSSE, Wis. -- The V-Hawks improved their conference campaign this weekend with a victory over the Fighting Saints of St. Francis. The V-Hawks won in 3-2 fashion, improving their overall record to 9-4-2 and improving their CCAC record to 6-2. The Saints fall to 2-11-1 overall and 2-7 in conference play.
The V-Hawks kicked off the scoring early with a goal only two minutes into the game from Andrii Ketsuk. The goal was assisted by Alvaro Paquete Oliveira. The V-Hawks continued to apply pressure against the fighting saints, taking several shots and corner kicks early in the match. The V-Hawks ended the half with two corner kicks from Jayden Wefel and two shots. One shot from Pablo Orrego Zapata and one shot by Ethan Stewart. Going into the half, the V-Hawks held the 1-0 lead.
The Fighting Saints responded early in the second half with a goal in the 49th minute. The V-Hawks continued to fight back, taking a shot at 60 minutes and two corner kicks in the 62nd minute. The V-Hawks found the net once again with a goal by Mateo Torres in the 64th. His goal was assisted by Joaquin Eichhorn. The V-Hawks continued to be the aggressors, however the Saints scored another goal at the 74th minute. In no time, the V-Hawks responded just two minutes later, with a goal by Ronmel Alfaro assisted by Joaquin Eichhorn to take the lead back at 3-2.
The V-Hawks ended the game with a 3-2 victory, fending off some late shots by the Fighting Saints.
