V-Hawks Drop Conference Match Against Bees
LA CROSSE, Wis. -- The V-Hawk men's volleyball team hosted the Fighting Bees of St. Ambrose on Thursday night. Through four sets of competition, the V-Hawks fell to the Bees 3-1. With the loss, the V-Hawks fall to 6-17 on the season and 3-4 in conference competitions. The Bees improve to 15-8 overall and 5-3 in the conference.
The V-Hawks were led by Styrk Myhre on the offense and the defense. Offensively, Styrk had six kills for a 0.357 hitting percentage. Defensively, he led the way with six blocks through four sets of competition. Logan Amdur led from the set with 19 assists, and in the back court, Daxton Marschall, Ben Sendelbach, and Roman Rzeszutko each had four digs. Max Dugan led with two aces from the service line.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The V-Hawks went down 4-1 early in the first set. Three straight points for the V-Hawks brought them back to a tie. Later in the set, the V-Hawks went on a 5-0 run with back-to-back blocks from Logan Amdur and Styrk Myhre to take the 11-7 lead. The Bees responded, tying it at 13-13. Later in the set, the V-Hawks went on another short run with a kill from Riley Connors and an ace from Max Dugan to take the 19-16 lead. The Bees tied it back up at 19-19, forcing the V-Hawk timeout. The two teams went point for point into extra points. The V-Hawks were down 30-29, but earned two points to flip the lead to 31-30 and force a St. Ambrose timeout. Out of the timeout, Riley Connors and Styrk Myhre secured the set-winning block 32-30.
- St. Ambrose took a quick 5-1 lead in the second set. A kill from Riley Connors attempted to slow the Bee momentum, but four more points from the Bees forced a V-Hawk timeout at 9-2. Styrk Myhre picked up another block out of the timeout. The Bees went on another run, and the V-Hawks found themselves down 16-4. The V-Hawks attempted to fight back, but they eventually fell 25-9 in set two.
- In set three, the V-Hawks went down 5-2 early. The V-Hawks worked their way within one point on a Logan Amdur kill, but the Bees put up a 5-0 run to take the 13-7 lead. The V-Hawks continued to score single points throughout, but St. Ambrose continued to go on a series of short runs. A late kill from Ethan Davis kept the V-Hawks in the game, but they eventually fell in set two 25-14.
- In the fourth, the V-Hawks took the early 5-1 lead. The Bees reponded, taking the lead at 9-8. The V-Hawks continued to work, getting kills from Owen Collitt and Ethan Davis, but they fell to the Bees 14-10 in the middle of the set. A kill from Logan Amdur brought the ball back to the V-Hawk side, but St. Ambrose continued going on severall short runs. The V-Hawks fell in set four 25-14.

The V-Hawks will return to La Crosse on Saturday, March 21 as they compete in a triangular match. They will face the Judson Eagles at 1PM and they will face the UWSP Pointers at 5PM.
