V-Hawks Down Trolls in Straight Sets
LA CROSSE, Wis -- The V-Hawks took to the court to face off against the Trinity Christian Trolls for another night of midweek conference action. Through three sets, the V-Hawks claimed the sweeping victory 3-0. The V-Hawks improve to 8-18 on the season and 5-4 in the CCAC. Trinity Christian falls to 4-13 overall and 2-7 in the conference.
Offensively, the V-Hawks were led by Logan Amdur's eight kills. Styrk Myhre also added seven kills on a 0.385 hitting percentage. From the set, Roman Rzeszutko led the way for the V-Hawks with 17 assists followed by 13 assists from Logan Amdur. Max Dugan led for the V-Hawks in the back court with 12 digs, while Logan Amdur led in the from court defensively with four blocks.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the first set, the V-Hawks jumped to a quick 7-0 lead. Trinity Christian attempted fighting back, but kills from Caleb Koza and Styrk Myhre kept momentum for the V-Hawks. Trinity Christian came within six points at 17-11, but the V-Hawks fought back. The team went on a 6-0 run late in the set with blocks from Logan Amdur, Ethan Davis, and Owen Collitt. The V-Hawks won set one 25-13 on a kill from Owen Collitt.
- In set two, a Riley Connors kill opened scoring for the V-Hawks. The V-Hawks held a steady lead at 10-6 and expanded to a 12-7 lead with scoring from Ethan Davis. Trinity Christian fought within two points at 16-14, but the V-Hawks continued responding. A Roman Rzeszutko ace gave the V-Hawks a four point lead at 19-15. The V-Hawks finished the second set the same way they started it, a kill from Riley Connors to win 25-20.
- In the third set, the V-Hawks struggled early, going down 8-6 in the beginning of the set. A 4-0 run for the V-Hawks brought the lead back in their favor. Down the stretch, the V-Hawks went down 17-14. The two teams went point-for-point with Viterbo struggling to get out of the three point deficit. Back-to-back service aces from Roman Rzeszutko and a kill from Caleb Koza put the V-Hawks within one point, and the V-Hawks took the lead at 22-21 on a Justin Kratzenstein kill. Another kill by Kratzenstein kept the lead in the V-Hawks favor, and they went on to win the set, and the match, 25-23.
