V-Hawks pick up road win; led by Nora Tucker
SUPERIOR, Wis. -- The V-Hawks traveled north to Superior, Wis. on Tuesday night to face off against the Yellowjackets. The V-Hawks held strong and were able to claim the 64-59 victory over the Yellowjackets, moving to a 3-7 overall record ahead of a conference weekend competition. The Yellowjackets fall to a 2-5 overall record.
Offensively, it was all about Nora Tucker. Tucker earned 22 points for the V-Hawks, going 6-9 from the three and 8-12 overall from the field. Tucker added a pair of assists and a steal as well for the V-Hawks. Carly drew was next up with 13 points, going 6-12 from the field. Defensively, the V-Hawks were led by Kira John. John put up eight rebounds. Lauryn Goettl also added seven rebounds and an impressive four steals. Pearla Teko-Folly tacked on a pair of blocks for the V-Hawks as well.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The V-Hawks scored first on a jump shot from Pearla Teko-Folly
- A Nora Tucker three brought the V-Hawks an 11-2 early lead
- Tucker continued to work with the lead, making a three to hold an 18-11 lead
- The Yellowjackets responded, coming within two points at 18-16
- The V-Hawks finished the first quarter up 22-20
- Carly Drew scored first in the second quarter to extend the lead to 24-20
- The V-Hawks held the lead through the entirety of the second quarter
- Nora Tucker was the final scorer before halftime
- The V-Hawks were up 36-30 going into the half
- Early scoring from Pearla Teko-Folly gave the V-Hawks a 39-30 lead in the third quarter
- The V-Hawks extended to a fourteen point lead on scoring from Marley Hughes and Carly Drew at 48-34
- The Yellowjackets got back within seven going into the fourth quarter
- With three minutes left, the V-Hawks had a 63-53 lead
- The Yellowjackets got within four points
- A Chloe Auth free throw finalized the game, and the V-Hawks won 64-59
