V-Hawks fall short on the road

CHICAGO, Ill. -- The V-Hawk women's basketball team took to the court for the first time in 2026 to face off against the Cougars of Saint Xavier on Saturday. The V-Hawks fell to the Cougars 77-57 after four quarters. With the loss, the V-Hawks fall to 4-9 overall and 3-4 in CCAC competition. The Cougars improve to 10-5 overall and 6-1 in conference competition. 

Offensively, the V-Hawks were led by Nora Tucker. Tucker went 3-6 from the three and 5-10 from the field overall for 13 points on the game. Marley Hughes added seven points and three assists, while Kira John added eight points and an assist. Defensively, Nora Tucker earned six rebounds to lead the team. Lauryn Goettl, Marley Hughes, Carly Drew, and Kira John each added five rebounds as well. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Pearla Teko-Folly earned the first V-Hawk points of the game
  • Marley Hughes, Lauryn Goettl, and Chloe Auth each added to take the 8-0 lead
  • Nora Tucker earned a three pointer to keep the V-Hawks at an 11-4 lead
  • The Cougars responded and led 14-11 at the end of the first quarter
  • Chloe Auth scored the first V-Hawk points of the second quarter to cut the lead
  • The V-Hawks continued fighting with scoring from Cece Davis and Chloe Auth
  • Cece Davis added four more to cut the Cougar lead to eight
  • Nora Tucker added three more at the end of the quarter, and the V-Hawks went into the second half down 37-26
  • Tucker and Teko-Folly combined for five points to open the second half, cutting the lead to six
  • Later in the third, Nora Tucker and Kira John each added two, fighting to catch up
  • Carly Drew added a couple points with two minutes left in the quarter
  • With one minute remaining in the third, the V-Hawks rattled off six points from Shayna Williamson, Marley Hughes, and Kira John
  • The V-Hawks didn't score for the first two minutes of the final quarter, but the drought was broken by Nora Tucker
  • The V-Hawks fell behind 20 points late in the quarter
  • Scoring from Lauryn Goettl and Kira John cut the lead, but the Cougars responded
  • Three points from Lydia Niederstadt late in the quarter fought to keep the V-Hawks alive
  • The V-Hawks fell 77-57 at the end of the game

The V-Hawks return to play on Monday, January 5th as they face off against Martin Luther College on the road. The game is slated for 5:30pm.
