V-Hawks Victorious over Cougars
LA CROSSE, Wis. -- The V-Hawk women's basketball team took to the court on Wednesday night seeking their 11th CCAC victory this season. Through the competition, the V-Hawks were able to pick up the win in a closely contested match. The V-Hawks escaped with a 60-59 win, and they improve to 13-13 on the season and 11-8 in the conference. The Cougars drop to 18-9 overall and 14-5 in the conference.
Offensively, the V-Hawks were led by Carly Drew. Drew picked up 16 points for the V-Hawks, going 4-8 from the three point line. Pearla Teko-Folly also impressed for the V-Hawks, adding 14 points and 11 rebounds to the tally for another double-double. Shayna Williamson added eight points, while Nora Tucker added seven.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The V-Hawks scored first on a Nora Tucker layup
- The Cougars remained within one point until a V-Hawk 8-0 run to take the 17-8 lead
- The V-Hawks held a 17-11 lead going into the second quarter
- In the second, the Cougars crept back within one

- Scoring from Nora Tucker and Carly Drew gave the V-Hawks a 27-19 lead
- More scoring from Nora Tucker and Shayna Williamson extended the lead to 34-24
- The V-Hawks were up 34-26 going into halftime
- Out of the half, the V-Hawks extended their lead to 40-28
- The Cougars pushed back within three
- The V-Hawks held them off, going on a 10-0 run to close the third quarter 52-41
- The V-Hawks struggled to find a rhythm in the fourth, allowing seven unanswered points from the Cougars
- With two minutes remaining, the V-Hawks held a 58-54 lead
- With 1:33 left, Pearla Teko-Folly scored a crucial layup for the V-Hawks to go up 60-54
- Saint Xavier responded with a made three with 27 seconds left, cutting the deficit to 60-57
- Another score from the Cougars brought them within one point
- An impressive defensive play from Chloe Auth gave the V-Hawks the ball
- Saint Xavier got it back with two second remaining
- They took one final shot and missed, and the V-Hawks came out victorious

The V-Hawks will host their final home contest this weekend on Saturday, February 21. The V-Hawks will face off against the Saints of Holy Cross at 1PM. Seniors will be recognized prior to the start of the game.
