V-Hawks Down the Crimson Wave
WHITING, Ind. -- The V-Hawks traveled to Indiana on Tuesday afternoon to face off against the Crimson Wave of Calumet. The V-Hawks came away from the match with a victory, improving to 11-5 overall and adding another win to their 5-0 conference run. Calumet falls to 1-12 overall and 0-6 in CCAC play.
The V-Hawks were led by Jada Mitchell on Tuesday night. Mitchell had eight kills with a 0.438 hitting percentage. Sadie Treptow was close behind with seven kills and a 0.455 percentage. Treptow also led in blocks for the V-Hawks with two. Maddie Connor earned the most assists on the night with 16 and Resse Germann led the team defensively with 13 digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Viterbo opened up the game dominantly with a 4-0 run. The Crimson Wave fought back to a tie, but the V-Hawks went on another run with two kills by Jada Mitchell and an ace from Hailee Halverson. The V-Hawks held a slight lead into the middle of the set before they exploded with a 9-0 run. During the run, MaKena Ihle and Izzy Jahr scored two kills a piece and Jaden Polovina picked up an ace. The V-Hawks held the lead into the end of the set. Back-to-back kills from Jada Mitchell solidified the first set 25-15 win.
- The V-Hawks went on an early 6-0 run to start set two with an ace by Maddie Connor. Calumet attempted to fight back, but the V-Hawks continued responding. A short 3-0 run by the Crimson Wave brought them back within four points, but the V-Hawks responded with a 9-2 run. During the run, Resse Germann and Maddie Connor each picked up an ace and Sadie Treptow and Hailee Halverson each added a kill. The V-Hawks won set two on a kill by Aubrey Dorn 25-14.
- Mia Quist earned the first kill for the V-Hawks in set three. The V-Hawks jumped to an early 7-5 lead, but the Crimson Wave tied it up at 7-7. The V-Hawks responded with a 7-2 run, marked by an ace from Mia Quist and an ace from Addison Pecha. The V-Hawks extended their lead into the end of the set with Kills by Aubrey Dorn and Isabel Rubenzer. Kills from Jada Mitchell and Casey Frankland finished the set and the match with a 25-17 victory.
