V-Hawks extend conference run, defeat Trinity Christian
PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. -- The V-Hawks traveled to Illinois to continue their CCAC campaign on Tuesday night to face off against the Trolls of Trinity Christian. Through four hard-fought sets, the V-Hawks came out on top, defeating the Trolls 3-1 (25-23, 21-25, 25-17, 25-18). The win improves the V-Hawks' record to 20-6 overall and improves their conference record to an unblemished 14-0. The Trolls fall to 11-15 and 10-6 in CCAC play.
The V-Hawks were led in kills by Sadie Treptow with 10. Closely behind her was Jada Mitchell with nine and MaKena Ihle with eight. Defensively, in the front court, Jada Mitchell had seven blocks and Sadie Treptow added five. In the back court, Resse Germann led the way with 19 digs. From the set, Jaden Polovina and Maddie Connor each had 19 assists. Behind the service line, both Izzy Jahr and Maddie Connor added two aces.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The V-Hawks fell behind early, going down 9-3 after several errors. An ace by Izzy Jahr made an attempt at changing the momentum. Three straight points for the V-Hawks started to change the lead. The V-Hawks were only down by one after a kill from Mia Quist. The V-Hawks remained tied or down by one point until 19-19 when the V-Hawks earned a kill from Sadie Treptow and took the 20-19 lead. The V-Hawks extended their lead with an error by Trinity Christian, and the V-Hawks won the set on a kill from Jalen Hinzman.
- In set two, the V-Hawks jumped out to an early 8-5 lead. The V-Hawks held the lead through most of the early set, going up 16-11 in the middle. The Trolls responded with an 8-1 scoring run to go up 20-17. A block by Jalen Hinzman and Izzy Jahr made an attempt at a comeback. A kill from Mia Quist brought the V-Hawks up to 20 points, but the Trolls pulled through, winning the second set.
- Mia Quist earned the first two points for the V-Hawks in the third set. A 4-0 run for the V-Hawks put them up early. An 8-1 run by the V-Hawks earned them a 19-11 lead with kills from Sadie Treptow, Jada Mitchell, and Maddie Connor. The V-Hawks never looked back and won the set on a service ace from Maddie Connor, 25-17.
- A kill by Jada Mitchell was the first point of the fourth set. The V-Hawks were able to earn an early 11-6 lead with an ace from Izzy Jahr and kills from MaKena Ihle and Mia Quist. The Trolls fought back, tying the set at 18-18, but they never scored again. The V-Hawks went on a 7-0 run to close the set, and the match, with kills from MaKena Ihle, Mia Quist, and Sadie Treptow, as well as an ace from Maddie Connor, and a block from Sadie Treptow.
