V-Hawks defeat conference foe, Improve to 17-0

LA CROSSE, Wis. -- The V-Hawks hosted the CCAC #2 St. Francis on Tuesday night in La Crosse. Going into the match, the V-Hawks and the Saints topped the standings of the CCAC. The V-Hawks powered through for the sweep, and they improved to 23-6 overall and 17-0 in conference competition. St. Francis falls to 17-13 overall and 13-4 in conference play. 

The V-Hawks were led offensively by Jada Mitchell's 10 kills. Casey Frankland also stepped up last night to earn five kills on a 0.833 hitting percentage. Jaden Polovina led the way for assists with 18, while Resse Germann matched her with 18 digs in the back court. At the net, nothing was getting past the middles. Jada Mitchell had five blocks while Jalen Hinzman had four. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The V-Hawks scored the first two points of the night off of kills from Jada Mitchell and Sadie Treptow. The V-Hawks and the Saints remained neck and neck throught most of the first set until Mia Quist got behind the service line and took the V-Hawks on a 6-0 run. An ace by Quist and a kill from Mitchell assisted the V-Hawks in getting the 22-15 lead. The V-Hawks powered to the finish line, winning set one 25-16. 
• Set two started hot for the V-Hawks with back-to-back kills from Jada Mitchell followed by an ace from Maddie Connor. The V-Hawks extended their lead when Jaden Polovina went back to serve and put up back-to-back aces for the V-Hawks. A late 5-0 run for the V-Hawks put them up ten points with kills from MaKena Ihle, Jalen Hinzman, and Casey Frankland. A kill by Jada Mitchell from Jaden Polovina sealed the second set 25-15.
• The Saints took the early lead in set three, going up 8-3. At 11-4, the V-Hawks were forced into a timeout, but out of the timeout Hailee Halverson put down a kill. The Saints continued to top the V-Hawks, going up by as many as nine points at 19-10. The V-Hawks buckled down and got to work at the hands of Izzy Jahr behind the service line. The V-Hawks scored nine unanswered points over the Saints. During their run, Jalen Hinzman picked up two kills, while Casey Frankland and MaKena Ihle each added one. Izzy Jahr also added an ace. The V-Hawks took their momentum to the end, finishing with a 25-21 victory on a kill from Casey Frankland.
