V-Hawks defeat Blue Angels, improve to 44 Straight Conference Wins

LA CROSSE, Wis. -- The V-Hawks took to the court on Friday in their final regular season matchup against the Blue Angels. The V-Hawks swept the Blue Angels, and with their win they improve to 24-6 overall and finish 18-0 in CCAC play. The Blue Angels fall to 4-28 and 1-17 in CCAC to finalize their season. With the win, the V-Hawks improved to 44 straight conference victories. The V-Hawks have not fell in a conference matchup since November of 2022. 

The V-Hawks were led on the offense by Mia Quist. Her eight kills were the most on the team. Defensively, the V-Hawks were led by Mikaela Marquardt's five digs and Jada Mitchell's four blocks. On the set, Jaden Polovina led the way with 16 assists. Behind the service line, Maddie Connor added four aces to the tally. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The V-Hawks attacked early with a kill from Hailee Halverson. They took the early lead at 11-5 with kills from MaKena Ihle and Izzy Jahr. With Mia Quist behind the service line, the V-Hawks went on a 5-0 run with kills from MaKena Ihle, Jada Mitchell, and Hailee Halverson. At 17-7, Maddie Connor got behind the service line and added two aces. The first set ended on an ace from Resse Germann to finish 25-9. 
  • The V-Hawks opened set two with a 7-0 run and with kills from Jada Mitchell and Mia Quist as well as a block from Sadie Treptow and an ace from Maddie Connor. At 10-6, Sadie Treptow got behind the service line and added back-to-back-to-back aces. Addison Pecha got behind the line at 15-10 and took the V-Hawks on a 9-0 scoring run with two aces. A Mia Quist kill finalized the set 25-11. 
  • The V-Hawks went down early in the third set, falling behind 10-5. A kill by Jalen Hinzman attempted to fight back, but the V-Hawks remained down at 12-7. Kills by Aubrey Dorn and MaKena Ihle and a block from Jalen Hinzman brought the score up to 12-11 in favor of the Blue Angels. Another 5-0 brought the lead back to the V-Hawks with two kills a piece from Aubrey Dorn and Mia Quist. The V-Hawks sped away after that, taking home the 25-18 victory over the Blue Angels.

The V-Hawks will be facing off against the Indiana Northwest Redhawks at 6pm here in La Crosse on Tuesday, November 11th. The match is the first round of the CCAC Tournament. The winner will advance to the CCAC Semifinals on Thursday, November 13.
