V-Hawks Season Comes to a Close in NAIA Opening Round
LA CROSSE, Wis. -- The V-Hawks took to the court on Saturday to face off against the Foresters of Huntington. Through five hard-fought sets, the V-Hawks were topped by the Foresters, being upset in the NAIA Opening Round. The loss concludes the season for the V-Hawk women's volleyball team. The V-Hawks finish their season with a 27-7 record. Huntington will continue their season with a 25-8 record, advancing to the Finals Site in Sioux City, Iowa.
Offensively, the V-Hawks were led by Mia Quist. She totaled a whopping 19 kills. Sadie Treptow added 16 kills and Jada Mitchell posted 15. Defensively, Jada Mitchell added nine blocks, breaking the Viterbo Career Blocks record. In the back court, Resse Germann added 25 digs to lead the team. Maddie Connor picked up 33 assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The V-Hawks had a dominant performance in the first set, going up 17-10 early. A kill by Jada Mitchell kept their lead. Three points in a row for the V-Hawks gave them a 24-18 edge. A Mia Quist kill finalized the set 25-20.
- The V-Hawks took the 4-1 early lead in set two. Huntington continued to fight, but the V-Hawks consistently held the edge. A kill by Sadie Treptow extended their lead to 21-17 late in the set. The V-Hawks pushed to the finish line after Huntington earned a 3-0 run late in the set. The V-Hawks won 25-22.
- Huntington dominated early in set three, going up 5-2 right away. The Foresters extended their lead on a 6-0 run. The V-Hawks fought back with three kills in a row from Sadie Treptow to cut the lead to four for the Foresters. Back-to-back kills from Izzy Jahr made an attempt to save the third set, but the Foresters pushed to the end to win 25-18.
- The V-Hawks struggled early in set four, going down 4-0 early. Huntington continued to extend their lead, going up 16-10 in the fourth. The V-Hawks pushed a 6-0 lead halfway through the fourth with kills from Sadie Treptow and Jada Mitchell. An ace from Resse germann held the tie for the V-Hawks. The set was tied again at 23-23. After some back and forth, a kill by Sadie Treptow tied the set again at 25-25. The Foresters earned two points to force a fifth set, winning 27-25.
- Huntington jumped to a 4-2 lead early in the fifth. The V-Hawks earned a kill from Sadie Treptow, but the Foresters rattled off a six point unanswered scoring run to go up 10-3. The V-Hawks continued fighting to the end, but the Foresters overpowered the V-Hawks to win 15-8 in the fifth, advancing to the NAIA Finals Site.
