V-Hawks Open Conference Play on High Note

CHICAGO, Ill. -- The V-Hawks opened their CCAC season with a trip to Chicago to face off against the Saint Xavier Cougars. The V-Hawks put together a late-game 2-1 comeback victory and improve to a 4-1-2 record (1-0 CCAC) while the Cougars fall to 5-3-1 with an 0-1 CCAC record. 

The V-Hawks fell behind early in the game when the Cougars scored at the ten minute mark. Though behind for most of the game, the V-Hawks out-played the Cougars. Viterbo took 20 shots to Saint Xavier's five. Of the V-Hawks' 20 shots, seven landed on goal, and they scored on two. Viterbo also took 10 corner kicks, while the Cougars only took one. 

After being down 1-0 for most of the game, the V-Hawks powered through, scoring at the 70 and 71 minute marks to take the lead and the win. Their goals were only separated by a minute and a half. 

V-HAWK SCORING

  • 70' - Jokubas Jancauskas got the ball fed to him by Joaquin Eichhorn and scored the first goal for the V-Hawks, the fifth of his season. Jancauskas now leads the team in goals scored. 
  • 71' - Just a minute and a half later, Sebastian Ortiz got a hold of the ball on an assist from Jokubas Jancauskas to score the second goal for the V-Hawks. Ortiz's goal marks his first of the season.

The V-Hawks will return home this weekend to face off in their second CCAC competition. They will play the Saint Ambrose Bees at 1 pm.
