V-Hawks Open Their Season With a Tie

MENOMONIE, Wis. -- The Viterbo Men's Soccer team traveled to Menomonie, Wisconsin on Sunday afternoon to compete in their first game of the year against UW-Stout. The game finished in a 3-3 tie after the teams fought back and forth for most of the match. 

Over the course of the game, the V-Hawks recorded 16 shots with seven of them landing on goal, scoring on three of those. Viterbo scored two goals in the first half, outscoring UW-Stout 2-1. In the second half, the V-Hawks only scored one goal to Stout's two. 

Joaquin Eichhorn scored the first goal of the game, assisted by Jokubas Jancauskas, but UW-Stout responded with a goal of their own just four minutes later. The V-Hawks continued to fight back with Jokubas Jancauskas scoring his first career goal only two minutes after UW-Stout scored, assisted by Ted Holstein. The V-Hawks went in to halftime with a 2-1 lead. After halftime, at 56', UW-Stout scored again to tie the game at 2-2. Only a minute and a half after the UW-Stout score, Andrii Ketuk scored the third and final goal for the V-Hawks. UW-Stout tied the game with a goal at 62'. Neither team scored for the remainder of the game, and the V-Hawks tied with Stout 3-3. 

V-HAWK SCORING

  • 25' - Senior Joaquin Eichhorn scored the first goal of the game for the V-Hawks after getting his shot blocked just three minutes before. Eichhorn's goal was assisted by freshman Jokubas Jancauskas. Eichhorn's goal was the 13th of his career, and it put Viterbo up in the game 1-0. 
  • 31' - Jokubas Jancauskas scored the first goal of his career just 31 minutes into the game, responding to a goal that was made by UW-Stout at 29'. Jacauskas' goal was assisted by sophomore Ted Holstein to put the V-Hawks back on top 2-1. 
  • 58' - Early in the second half, sophomore Andrii Ketsuk got a hold of the ball and scored the first goal of his career just two minutes after UW-Stout scored. Ketsuk's goal brought the V-Hawks back to the lead at 3-2.

The V-Hawks will travel to Mount Mercy in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on Wednesday. They will face off against the Mustangs at 7 PM.
