V-Hawks fall to Saint Xavier

LA CROSSE, Wis. -- The V-Hawk women's soccer team took to the field on Tuesday afternoon to compete against the CCAC top-ranked Cougars of Saint Xavier. Through 90 minutes of competition, the V-Hawks were able to score two goals, however, they were outscored 4-2 against the Saint Xavier Cougars. The V-Hawks fall to 6-6 overall and 5-5 in CCAC play. The Cougars improve to 8-4-4 overall and 7-1-3 in the CCAC. 

The V-Hawks started strong in the first half, taking two shots on goal within the first ten minutes of the game. The Cougars scored first at 12 minutes into the game, but the V-Hawks attempted to respond with a blocked shot from Elle Hager. Once again, the Cougars scored off a corner kick 20 minutes into the match. The V-Hawks continued fighting with Paxten Bristol taking two back-to-back shots in the 35th minute. At 43 minutes, Elle Hager picked up a goal, assisted by Brynlee Kelly's corner kick. 

In the second half, the V-Hawks came out aggressive with Kelcie Karweick taking a shot at the 47th minute. Saint Xavier scored their third goal of the night at 52 minutes and scored once again at 61 minutes for their fourth and final of the afternoon. The V-Hawks continued to fight with a shot by Natalie Graham and Elle Hager. Another shot by Alex Little came in the 81st minute, and Evelyn Shaw scored shortly after on an assist from Alex Little. The V-Hawks took one final shot in the 88th minute, however they fell to the Cougars 4-2.

  • 43' - Senior Elle Hager got a good look at the goal off of the corner kick from Brynlee Kelly to score her first goal of the night and the first of the night for the V-Hawks. 
  • 81' - Sophomore Evelyn Shaw got an open look at the goal late in the game, scoring the second for the team on an assist from Alex Little
